How to Fix If Bluetooth Missing From PC and Devices List

One of the first things that you can do is to see whether the Bluetooth hardware is indeed present in your PC. Secondly, you should always make sure to keep the Bluetooth drivers always up to date to avoid any issues. There are some other issues where the Bluetooth disappears from the Settings menu due to some conflicting applications, or bad drivers, etc. Let us take a look at some of the potential workarounds that can help you fix this issue.

Checking the Bluetooth Service

One of the reasons why Bluetooth is not showing up on the device manager on your Windows PC could be due to the fact that the service is not enabled. Follow the steps to change the service startup type fro Manual to Automatic.

  • Press the Win + R button on your keyboard to open the Run dialog.
  • Type in services.msc and hit Enter.
  • Under the services menu, search through the list of entries and click on Bluetooth Support Service.
  • Double click on it to open the service.
  • You may also have to make some changes to the Bluetooth Driver Management System, etc. on some devices.
  • Set the startup type as Automatic.
  • Press Apply to save changes and exit the services menu.
  • After this, press the Win + I button and head over to Devices and see if the problem is resolved or not.

Install default drivers for Bluetooth

Well, one of the working solutions for this issue is to install the default Bluetooth drivers on your Windows PC. You can simply uninstall the device and check for the software using the device manager.

  • Open the Run dialog using Win + R keys.
  • Type in devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
  • Search for the Bluetooth option and expand the menu.
  • Your Bluetooth device will be listed there.
  • Righ-click on your device and select Uninstall.
  • Note that once you do the above step, the Bluetooth device will be completely uninstalled from your Windows PC and the Bluetooth section will also vanish.
  • If you do not see any Bluetooth device then, you can press the View menu and click on Show Hidden Devices.
  • Right-click on the empty space in the Device Manager and select Scan for hardware changes.
  • Your computer will start scanning for all the connected hardware, i.e. the Bluetooth as well.
  • Once it detects your Bluetooth device, it will automatically install the drivers for that device.
  • Open the Bluetooth category and see if your device is listed under the Bluetooth section or not.
  • Now, you can check if the Bluetooth issue is fixed or not.

Update Driver

As similar to uninstalling the Bluetooth driver, in case there is any software compatibility issue, then you can try to update the driver for your Bluetooth device. Simply open the Device Manager and under the Bluetooth section, you can right-click on your device’s name and select Update Driver. Make sure that your PC is connected to an internet source to fetch the latest and updated software for your Bluetooth device.

Windows Troubleshooter

You can also make use of the Windows Troubleshooter available on all Windows OS to fix this issue.

  • Press the Windows button and search for Troubleshoot settings.
  • Tap on Bluetooth.
  • Hit the Run the troubleshooter option and let Windows do its job.
  • Once it is completed, you can check if the issue is resolved or not.

SFC and DISM Scan

Sometimes the issues can popup due to corrupt files. With the help of SFC, i.e. System File Checker, users can detect the corrupt files and repair them.

  • Open the command prompt.
  • Type in the below and hit Enter:
  • sfc /scannow
  • If this does not work, then you can try the DISM which is Deployment Image Servicing and Management.
  • Type in the commands in the given order below:
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
  • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Here Check Health checks for corruption, Scan Health is used when the Check Health fails, while the Restore Health is used to restore corrupted files.
