Amplitude Studios has developed Humankind that’s a turn-based strategy 4X video game that has been published by Sega recently in August 2021. It’s available for Windows, macOS, and Stadia platforms. After having a closed beta phase for a while, it’s now available for all and some PC users are experiencing the Humankind Not Launching Issue which is frustrating. But that doesn’t mean it’s free from bugs or errors because plenty of players are facing the game launching problems on their Windows computer that needs to be sorted out.
How to Fix Humankind Not Opening or Working
Well, it’s expected that there are a couple of possible reasons behind such an issue that eventually preventing the game files to run properly on your computer. Therefore, the game doesn’t launch at all even if you have a powerful gaming rig or laptop. Talking about the possible reasons, maybe there is some issue with the game files or graphics driver or DirectX version.

Sometimes not running the game as an administrator or using the in-game overlay application or any kind of background process (startup) can also cause several issues with the game launching on the Windows PC. Here we’ve shared all the possible workarounds that should help you out of it. So, without wasting any more time, let’s jump into the solution below.
1. Check System Requirements
One of the most important things is to check whether your PC configuration is meeting the system requirements of the game or not.

- Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
- OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)
- Processor: Intel i5 4th generation / AMD FX-8300
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics: NVIDIA GTX 770 / AMD R9 290
- DirectX: Version 11
- Storage: 25 GB available space

2. Run the game as an Administrator
If in case, you’re not running your video game using an administrator privilege then it may cause some issues with the game launching or startup crashing or even the game not loading, etc. So, it’s better to simply run the game exe file as an administrator on your Windows computer to check if that fixes the problem or not. To do so:
Right-click on the Humankind exe shortcut file on your PC.
Now, select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.
Make sure to click on the Run this program as an administrator checkbox to checkmark it.
Click on Apply and select OK to save changes.
3. Verify Integrity of Game Files
Sometimes it may also be possible that verifying the integrity of game files can easily fix the game launching or crashing-related issues on the Windows PC. In some cases, issues with the game files or corrupted game files may cause several issues whatsoever. Luckily, these in-game file issues can be fixed by using the game launcher that you’re using. To do this:
Launch Steam > Click on Library.
Right-click on Humankind from the list of installed games.
Now, click on Properties > Go to Local Files.
Click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.
You’ll have to wait for the process until it gets completed.

4. Update GPU Drivers
It seems that multiple affected players have reported about the outdated graphics driver. If you’re also using the outdated graphics driver for a while then make sure to check for updates by following the steps below:
Press Windows + X keys to open the Quick Link Menu.

- Open the Steam client > Go to Library.
- Now, right-click on Humankind > Select Properties.

6. Delete Old Game Files from Closed Beta
Amplitude Studios has suggested deleting the previously installed game files or profile data under the OpenDev or Closed Beta. If in case, you’ve used the beta build and then updated to the public stable release then the system may start conflicting with the old game files.
To do that, you’ll need to delete the local game folders. Just go to Users[Your Username]\Documents\Humankind\ > Delete the full Humankind folder > Then restart the game to check if there is an issue or not.
7. Reinstall DirectX
DirectX files are quite essential for your Windows system to run multiple programs properly. If in case, DirectX becomes corrupted, they can easily block the game files from launching. You’ll simply need to reinstall DirectX on your computer.
- Visit the Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer page.
- Download the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
Otherwise, you can directly go to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared_CommonRedist\DirectX path and then run the DXSETUP.exe file to easily reinstall DirectX.
You should also check for Windows updates because Microsoft releases a new DirectX version with the cumulative updates of Windows. Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security > Check for updates. If a new update is available, just Download and Install it. Wait for the installation process to complete and then restart your PC to apply changes.

8. Reinstall Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable
There may be some possibilities that the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files become damaged or corrupted. In that scenario, the game or any other program may not launch properly or starts crashing. In that scenario, you should try reinstalling the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable file on your PC to resolve this problem. To do that:
- Head over to the following path on your PC:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared_CommonRedist\vcredist
- You should see the following folders:
- 2012\vc_redist.x64.exe
- 2013\vc_redist.x64.exe
- 2019\vc_redist.x64.exe
- Just make sure to run all of these executable files that are present. (If you’ve different folders, then run the vc_redist.x64.exe file in those folders)
- Finally, restart your PC to fix the issue.
9. Reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework
The Microsoft .Net Framework is used to develop games and necessary to run programs on Windows OS. If there is an issue with the .NET framework then make sure to follow the steps below:

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared_CommonRedist\DotNet\4.5.2
Then run the NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe file.
Once done, you’ll need to restart your PC.
8. Perform a Clean Boot
Sometimes performing a clean boot of your system can easily resolve multiple issues with the system performance and app launching. To do so:
Press Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Now, type msconfig and hit Enter to open the System Configuration window.
Go to the Services tab > Enable the Hide all Microsoft services checkbox.
Check all the services from the list and click on Disable all.
Click on Apply and then OK to save changes.
Go to the Startup tab > Select Open Task Manager.
Under the Startup tab from Task Manager.
Click on the individual task that you want to disable. Only disable the higher impactful tasks.
Once selected, click on Disable. [Make sure to disable the startup process one by one]
Finally, restart your PC to take effect immediately.
9. Disable Antivirus and Firewall Program
- Click on the Start menu > Type Control Panel and click on it.
- Now, type firewall in the search box > Click on Windows Firewall.
- From the left pane, click on Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
- Make sure to select Turn off Windows Firewall for the Private, Domain, and Public Network Settings.
- Finally, reboot the PC to apply changes, and try checking the issue.
Now, you’ll have to disable the anti-virus protection (Windows Defender) as well by following the steps below:
- Head over to the Windows Settings > Privacy and Security.
- Now, go to Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
- Click on Manage settings >Then turn off the Real-time Protection option.
- Once done, make sure to reboot your PC to apply changes.
